Congratulations to Dr Petra Bacova whose proposal came second place in the prestigious 3rd Call for H.F.R.I. Research Projects to support Postdoctoral Researchers. The Call aims to support the implementation of selected research projects of high scientific quality and excellence, for which Principal Investigators (PIs) are Postdoctoral Researchers (PR-PI), thereby supporting them in establishing their own independent research teams.

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) had impressive success in the latest evaluation results announced in April 2022 for the highly competitive and prestigious “Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions” (MSCA) programme. Five proposals out of a total of six submitted were selected for funding by the European Commission. Two of the five proposals were awarded to the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre, namely AQTIVATE and MELOMANES. Prof. Harmandaris is the CyI Principal Investigator of MELOMANES

CaSToRC Seminar Series Winter Spring 2022 V5

Congratulations to Assist. Prof. Nikos Savva who has recieved funding under the RIF’s “EXCELLENCE HUBS/0421” for his project "Controllable Droplet Transport in Heterogeneous Environments" (CoDeTHreE). This project aims to explore the synergies between applied mathematical analysis, data-driven modelling approaches and large-scale simulations for wetting phenomena, towards the development of novel modelling and computational tools to enhance our fundamental understanding of how to control droplet transport. Further details can be found here

Modeling/simulations of molecular systems

The SimEA research team hosted an online training event that aimed to introduce participants to modelling and simulations using supercomputers. The training consisted of the following topics:

  • Create a molecular configuration by minimising the energy of a system
  • Calculate the energy of a molecular system using Density Functional Theory (DFT)
  • Analyse the physical movement of molecules using molecular dynamics (MD)
  • Use machine learning/deep learning to reduce the computational complexity of atomic structure calculation- predict atomic structures using coarse-grained configurations.

Recordings of this training event are available here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBJMOOBU0RMeaNbpviGJ0ohgHLKKKtc2g
